In April 2007, Universal Studios announced that they were planning to develop a theme park in Dubai, to be called Universal Studios Dubailand. It will cover approximately 6.5 million-square feet, a similar size to Universal Orlando and the first phase will open in 2010.
Because of the tremendous summer temperatures, a lot of the attraction will be under cover.
It will be situated inside Dubailand which is a massive complex of theme parks, hotels, restaurants, shops, offices and housing. Ultimately, Dubailand will be twice the size of Walt Disney World in Florida.
The Universal park will be modelled on the Universal Studios park in Orlando Florida with movie themed rides such as King Kong and Revenge of the Mummy roller coasters, a Jurassic Park River Adventure and The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad Stunt Show.
Universal Dubailand park will have four themed lands, including Hollywood Zone, Metropolis Zone and Adventure Zone.
As well as attractions, Universal City Dubai will also have resort hotels with around 4,000 rooms.
The park is being built in conjunction with Tatweer, a government-owned development company and will be a licenced Universal park, like the one planned in Singapore, rather than owned by Universal Studios.
