Dubai is the second largest of the seven Emirates that make up the United Arab Emirate states.

It is a cosmopolitan country with a mixture of traditional Arabian heritage and culture like the bustling souks and bazaars merged with Western influences, like the new American style shopping malls, towering skyscrapers and theme parks.

Six million people visited Dubai in 2006 and this number is expected to double by 2010.

Dubai has seen tremendous development in the last few years and today it boasts the world's :

  • largest airport - Dubai World Central International Airport
  • largest man-made harbour - Port Jebel Ali
  • largest man-made islands - The Palm Jumeirah, The Palm Jebel Ali and The Palm Deira
  • tallest hotel - Burj Al Arab (Tower of the Arabs), to be surpassed in April 2008 by the Rose Tower (Rose Rotanna Suites)
  • tallest man-made structure - Burj Dubai (Dubai Tower)
